Seekers Create is a Portsmouth-based Community Interest Company led by Clair Martin and Steve Baker. They work with schools, community groups, charities, councils, and cultural partners to bring people together through creativity, shared stories, and playful engagement. Their work focuses on building stronger community connections and helping people feel heard, valued, and included in the places they live.
Clair and Steve have been part of the Let’s Get Talking About Suicide Festival since the very beginning. Four years ago, they supported Lara and Sarah to launch the first event by creating the Love and Hope mural at the entrance to Victoria Park. The mural quickly became a central part of the festival, inviting visitors to add their names and messages of support as a visible act of solidarity and remembrance. Alongside this, they helped deliver creative activities in the park and joined the organising committee to support the event.
Over the following years their role grew. Through Seekers Create they have helped shape the layout and logistics of the festival in Victoria Park, supported other artists, led the Creative Zone, and designed resources such as the interactive festival map used by visitors. They have remained part of the core team supporting Sarah and the wider committee as the event developed and reached more people each year.
Following the sad loss of Lara, Clair and Steve hold their involvement in the festival with even greater care. They see their continued support as part of honouring the legacy that Lara helped create alongside Sarah — a legacy centred on compassion, openness, and the courage to talk about suicide and mental health in public spaces.
As the festival evolves into the SALT Festival – Suicide Awareness Let’s Talk, Seekers Create continue to support the event on a voluntary basis. This year they have designed the new SALT logo and are again helping plan and deliver the festival as part of the organising committee.
Clair and Steve are proud to stand alongside Sarah and the SALT team. They believe deeply in the vision that Lara and Sarah began together, and they remain committed to using creativity, conversation, and community support to help make Portsmouth a kinder and more connected place.
